Deciding to attempt Everest has been a long time coming.
I grew up in the French Alps, in a town called Annecy, for 8 years. Being surrounded by such beautiful alpine peaks inspired my dream of one day climbing in the Himalayas. Both of my parents deeply valued outdoor experiences, so we spent a lot of time hiking, rock climbing, doing multi-day kayaking trips, canyoning, skiing, biking, and more—though none of it was at a high level. When I showed enough interest, I started embarking on bigger, more challenging climbing expeditions with my dad. As I gained more experience, my climbing skills gradually improved, and I discovered a true love for the mountains.
When I first started climbing big, technical peaks in the French and Italian Alps, it was tough—I always felt like the youngest and slowest on the mountain. But every time I somehow managed to push through.
We eventually moved back to Melbourne, and although it is very flat, I continued to dream of climbing big high altitude peaks! I gained more experience by climbing overseas, in the Andes, the Alps, and the Himalayas. Since then, I’ve summited several high-altitude mountains and broken 2 world records, including a Guinness World Record, all of which have only strengthened my passion for mountaineering.
I’ve been very lucky to have had mostly successful summits of big peaks, but the one I didn’t summit taught me the most.
In April last year, I attempted to climb Ama Dablam (6812m), but I injured my knee while climbing a steep ice section and wasn’t able to reach the top. It broke my heart and it felt like a complete failure at the time, but it taught me so much. I rebuilt the strength in my knee, and later that year, in October, I tried again. This time, I reached the summit and broke the world record for the youngest female to do so. That experience showed me that I could bounce back and overcome setbacks that had once seemed impossible.
My attempt to summit Mt. Everest isn’t just about pushing myself—it’s also about inspiring others to get outdoors and embrace discomfort. I believe everyone can find a love for the outdoors in one way or another.
This will be a long and tough journey, and my hardest challenge yet, but I’m excited for every step of the way.
Let’s do this!
