In March 2006, Paul Adler and Fiona Adler left for their attempt to climb Mount Everest.

We posted live updates here throughout our climb, as well as during the final stages of our preparation.  We hope that this helped our friends, family and other interested parties to experience the adventure with us along the way.

All at base camp

Chris and Bridge on Kala Patar after a special occasion. Photo by Passang Sherpa

Location: Everest Base Camp
Altitude: 5350m
Local Time: Thurs, 6th April, 5pm
Weather: Cloudy & Snowy, -5C

Hi, it's Chris here. Bridget and I have now arrived at base camp. It has been snowing most of the afternoon, but it is not too cold in the dining tent which we are in at the moment.

Bridget and I have had a great past three days, with the highlight being getting engaged!!! I proposed to Bridge in our lodge room three nights ago. The was no light so we were in the dark, looking at each other with our headtorches. I was planning to ask Bridge the next day on top of Kala Patar, the highest point in our trip, and also the best view of Everest, but I was getting too nervous and couldn't wait that long!

The next day we did climb Kala Patar, which was fantastic. There are almost 360 degree views, including a great view of Everest (it can't be seen from base camp). We gave Passang our camera and to take a couple of photos and he took about 30! There has to be at least one good one that we can enlarge!

Hi it's Bridget here. It's been an exciting few days, with a great surprise from Chris! I wonder if we hold some kind of record for a high altitude engagement?! We have called our parents on Paul and Fiona's sat phone - obviously we would love to tell all our brothers and sisters and friends individually, but unfortunately logistics are a bit difficult here, so hope you understand.

So now just chilling out at Base Camp and looking forward to watching Paul and Fiona trying out the icefall tomorrow! The camp is pretty luxurious and the scenery fantastic.

Bridget & Chris

To Chris and Bridget
Congrats!!! I think the proposal was very the dark with your headtorches at a lodge in Gorak Shep nestled in the Himalayans! What a beautiful proposal! Then a celebration on top of Kala Patar with a view of Everest! I'd say that surpasses the average engagement! Congratulations, again.

Bridg and Chris
Congratulations!!! Kathy and I were chatting at work last week and declared that Chris would propose this holiday - our predictions were correct! Its a shame you wont be following the tradition of spending good CU 'billable' time planning the wedding!

Have been checking the web posts regularly and the trek sounds amazing - have an awesome time!

Big hugs

Congratulations Bridge and Chris!!! I'm so happy for you both, it's brilliant news!

I think it wins in the engagement categories of most romantic; highest altitude; coldest environment and most unique and thoughtful (because I know how you love these mega long treks Bridge).

5 working days to go now before our departure and counting... Looking forward to seeing more updates of the trip and if you can, post a close up of the ring!!!
